Head of Statutory Accounting

On behalf of our Client, who is a global leader in financial services within the entertainment industry, we are looking for a
Head of Statutory Accounting colleague.
He/she plays a pivotal role, tasked with assembling and mentoring a team of accountants. This position ensures the accurate and timely completion of statutory accounting duties while working in close collaboration with the Production Accounting Team to fulfill departmental requirements. Responsibilities include the preparation of statutory reports, financial statements, tax filings, and submissions to relevant film authorities, along with a variety of other accounting tasks.
Responsibilities:
I. Operational: The role involves handling diverse production and statutory accounting responsibilities such as:
- Maintaining accurate and current financial records.
- Reviewing, validating, and processing invoices in line with applicable tax regulations and the guidelines of film-related authorities (e.g., Film Office or Film Institute).
- Verifying supporting documentation, including timesheets, delivery certificates, and contracts.
- Assisting in the preparation of contracts and delivery certifications.
- Inputting invoice data into accounting software systems.
- Preparing payment transactions for invoices and tax obligations.
- Supporting petty cash management activities.
- Reconciling bank statements, credit card transactions, and cash records.
- Collaborating with the Production Accounting Team to maintain robust financial controls and ensure consistency between statutory and production accounts.
- Providing administrative assistance to production subcontractors.
- Completing month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Preparing and submitting tax returns (e.g., VAT, corporate tax, and other local taxes).
- Contributing to the development of financial statements and internal reports.
- Liaising with production departments to resolve financial discrepancies, support budget adherence, and ensure contractual compliance.
- Assisting with tax rebate applications and communicating with the Hungarian Film Office.
- Supporting compliance-related initiatives.
II. Strategic:
- Collaborate with HR to recruit team members.
- Develop and document professional standards and procedural guidelines.
- Promote knowledge sharing within the team.
- Prepare the team to handle long-term operational activities independently.
- Gain expertise in calculating and validating the Hungarian tax rebate based on production budgets.
- Oversee and guide the statutory accounting team to ensure high-quality and timely task completion.
Required Experience and Skills:
- Minimum of 5 years of professional accounting experience.
- Registered Chartered Accountant degree
- Strong learning ability, particularly when adopting new systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Patience and attention to detail when performing repetitive tasks.
- Capacity to foster team unity and collaboration.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Fluent English language skills.
- Familiarity with the Hungarian Film and TV Tax Incentive, tax application processes is an advantage
